Introduction
Often it appears that the nose is large, when actually it is a recessed cheek or chin that is disproportionate. Cheek Implant surgery is used to improve and enhance facial contours. Frequently, this cheek enhancement will help provide a more harmonious balance to your face and features.
Procedure
The exact area to be augmented depends upon the individual's facial structure, and where on the cheekbone the implant will have the best effect. The incisions are most often made in the mouth. Cheek Implant surgery normally takes 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete and usually requires an overnight stay in hospital.
Recovery
Cheek implants are not a painful procedure, with patients experiencing only mild discomfort and occasionally, numbness. Physical exertion should be avoided for about three weeks but a return to work is usually possible after one week.
Post-Operative Care
River Medical offers post-operative support to all our patients, and you will be advised of the actions you can take to relieve any pain and/or discomfort, which is reduced with ice and mild painkillers. A non-solid diet is usually recommended for the first couple of days and care should be taken to sure the incision is kept clean with rinsing, but avoided when brushing your teeth. There may be swelling or puffiness for a few weeks after the procedure, which can be explained away as the result of dental work if you so wish.
Benefits
- Improve facial balance and facial proportions.
- Improve definition of the jaw line and improved profile.
- Greater confidence.
Is this right for me?
Candidates may have lost facial definition with ageing or may have been born with weakly defined cheeks. They should also be in good health and have reasonable expectations about the outcome.
Things to consider
It is important that you carefully consider any cosmetic surgery procedure. Your consultant surgeon will be pleased to answer any questions during your consultation and leading up to the procedure.
What are the risks?
Although Cheek Implants are generally a safe procedure, it does carry risks. These include infection, scarring, and delayed healing of wounds. You can minimise risk by following pre and post operative advice.
Questions to ask the doctor
- Are there before & after photos available?
- Where would he/she recommend the implants be positioned?
- Are there any other facial procedures that are suitable for you and could be carried out at the same time?
Preparing for the procedure
You can prepare for your Cheek Implants procedure by keeping to a healthy diet, to aid strength and recovery. During your consultation you should inform your cosmetic surgeon if you smoke or take medication, and you will be advised accordingly.
