Introduction
Often it appears that the nose is large, when actually it is a recessed chin which is disproportionate. Chin Implant surgery (or mentoplasty) is used to improve and enhance facial contours. Frequently, this chin enhancement will help provide a more harmonious balance to your face and features.
Procedure
An incision is made either inside your mouth along the lower lip or in the skin just beneath your chin in order to create a pocket at the front of your jawbone. A chin implant, specially selected to be the correct size and shape to give you your desired results, will then be inserted into the pocket.
Chin Implant surgery normally takes 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete and usually requires an overnight stay in hospital.
Recovery
Patients will experience some discomfort and swelling in the chin and jaw area for several days after the procedure, which causes difficulty with actions such as smiling and talking. Most are able to return to work within a week of surgery.
Post-Operative Care
If the incision was made in your mouth, your surgeon will recommend soft foods for the first few days, and also give advice on brushing your teeth without irritating the incision areas.
Benefits
- Improved facial balance and facial proportions.
- Improved definition of the jaw line and improves profile.
- Greater confidence
