Nose Re-Shaping (Rhinoplasty)

Introduction

Although few of us are completely satisfied with the shape or proportions of our nose, a nose that does not fit the other features on a face or is not shaped attractively can cause lasting distress and a lack in confidence. Rhinoplasty, also known as the 'nose job' is a well known and commonly requested procedure that can add symmetry to the face and can also help with breathing.

Procedure

The procedure is dependent on what your desired result is. Some clients will desire a narrowing of the nostrils whereas others will want a reduction in the height of the ridge of the nose. During your consultation, you will decide with your cosmetic surgeon which procedure is best for you.

Recovery

A Nose Reshaping operation takes approximately two hours and usually requires an overnight stay. You will experience some temporary numbness, bruising and swelling following the procedure and may also see some slight bleeding from the nostrils. Most clients return to work after around ten days. However, sporting activities should be avoided for up to six months following your procedure.

Post-Operative Care

River Medical offer post-operative support to all our patients, and you will be advised of the actions you can take to relieve any pain and/or discomfort . Fortunately Nose Reshaping rarely causes any visible scars, as most types of procedure are internal. To protect your reshaped nose, you will need to wear a dressing for around ten days and to be careful to avoid knocks and bumps.

Nose blowing should be avoided as much as possible for around two weeks after your procedure. Applying ice to the eye area will alleviate bruising.

What are the risks?

Nose Reshaping is generally safe. If you take proper care in preparing for the surgery and follow your surgeon's instruction regarding post-operative care, the risks are minimal. All risks will be discussed in full during your consultation with your consultant plastic surgeon.
