Introduction
Your face, hands and décolletage can be tainted by pigmentation and melasma due to ageing, hormonal changes or sun damage. The condition presents itself as a darkening in a particular area that does not blend with the surrounding areas. Caucasian skins tend to suffer superficial damage, usually due to sun, whereas darker African and Asian skin types can suffer pigmentation in the deeper skin layers. This can be caused by previous injury to the skin, or by simple genetics.
Types of Treatment
Pigmentation and Melasma can be treated with Fraxel, IPL, skin peeling or topical applications for use in your own home. Between one and six treatments will be required, depending on the size and density of the pigmented area. There will be an interval of three to six weeks between each treatment. A treatment lasts between 10 and 60 minutes.
Every patient has different needs; your nurse will explain what treatment plan is best for you and will tell you what to expect before, during and after the procedure. Treatments are detailed further within their relevant section on this website.
