Q&A WITH DR EMMA SHEEHAN

Dr Emma Sheehan is a Graduate of Trinity College Dublin and is registered with the Irish Medical Council and General Medical Council.  We spoke to her to get some insight into her approach and what led her into the field of aesthetics and anti-wrinkle injections.
What’s your favourite part of a consultation?
Explaining to clients that a natural appearance rather than frozen look is the ideal result and ensuring them that they will have a fresher appearance once the anti-wrinkle injections take effect. I always ask clients which area/s bother them most and work from there. I would never encourage clients to decide on a facial area that does not concern them.
What attracted you to this area of expertise?
I enjoy performing minimally invasive cosmetic procedures aimed at improving physical appearance and minimising the effects of normal aging. I feel it gives clients that extra confidence boost.
What’s the average age of your client?
30 years of age.
What’s the most common area of complaint?
Frown lines also known as “11 lines”, forehead lines and arching of the eyebrow.
What in your opinion is a sensible approach?
I always advise to start with smaller doses and advise not to get too many areas injected in the same day. I encourage clients to return for review after 2 weeks, as anti-wrinkle injections take this length of time to take effect. Usually on this visit clients are more than happy that their lines are softer without having the frozen appearance and they feel their face appears fresher.
How many times a year would clients visit?
Approximately three times a year, depending on how much movement one has in different muscle groups. However anti-wrinkle injections can train muscle groups to move less resulting in treatments lasting longer.
What’s the average spend?
Usually clients choose 2/3 areas costing 350/450.
