A facelift involves the tightening of facial and neck skin tissues, re-orientation of muscles, and repositioning of fat, with re-draping of the skin. A facelift is sometimes performed in conjunction with other facial aesthetic procedures, such as a brow lift, forehead lift or eyelid surgery.
- Reduces wrinkles, sagging, loose skin
- Lifts hooded, sagging skin
- Delivers a younger, fresher, brighter appearance
A facelift can be performed through keyhole surgery or incision. Occasionally, a small incision beneath the chin permits the removal of fatty tissue in that area and smoothing of the cord-like structures of the underlying muscle in the neck. Once excess fat is removed, underlying muscles are tightened and the skin is pulled up into its new position.

A key aspect of preparing for any surgery is that your Surgeon understands your desires and expectations. At your initial consultation, your Consultant will explain the procedure in great detail, discuss your expectations and what he/she can achieve for you, ensuring you have realistic expectations of the results.
Your Surgeon will also want to evaluate your current physical health and health history, ensuring you are a suitable candidate for surgery. Because this is an elective procedure, you and your Surgeon will naturally carefully discuss the benefits and risks involved, as is the case with any surgical procedure.-

There are many approaches to facelift surgery and the best approach for you will be discussed in full with your Surgeon. There is usually an incision made just in front of the ear in the natural fold. The Surgeon then expertly lifts muscle and fat structures and re-drapes skin over these structures to reveal a tighter, more youthful, more refined look. Occasionally, a small incision beneath the chin permits the removal of fatty tissue in that area and smoothing of the cord-like structures of the underlying muscle in the neck. Once excess fat is removed, underlying muscles are tightened and the skin is pulled up into its new position.
The facelift procedure is usually performed under general anaesthetic and takes between one and four hours. All River Medical surgical procedures involve an overnight hospital stay to allow us to closely monitor your recovery and ensure optimum safety. After all, a hospital environment is the safest and only adequate place to deal with any potential eventualities.-

Typically you will stay overnight in hospital after your procedure. You will need someone to take you home when you are discharged by the Surgeon as you will not be able to drive. You may have bruising and swelling around the area. Your Surgeon will tell you more about the typical recovery process and may make recommendations based on your individual case but by and large expect to take between 5-10 days off work. If your job is physical you may require more time. Everyone recovers differently but you can rest assured that we will monitor you closely to ensure the swiftest, safest and most comfortable recovery.-

Am I a suitable candidate?+-
Your Consultant will assess your suitability and will recommend the best treatment for you at your free consultation. He/she will also show your pictures of similar patients so that you can be confident about your expected results.
How should I prepare for my procedure?+-
Preparation will begin with an initial consultation with your Consultant Plastic Surgeon, followed by a meeting with one of our Registered General Nurses. Each one will go through every aspect of the surgery in great detail. Prior to surgery you will return for a further comprehensive pre-operative assessment with your River Medical Nurse. Will there be scarring?+-
Scarring is minimal as incisions are made in the natural folds of the face where possible. We use only the most advanced suturing techniques to minimise any visible scarring.
Why choose River Medical?+-
We are widely regarded as being the industry leader in Ireland, specialising in the most comprehensive range of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. At River Medical, we never compromise on the level of care and attention we give each and every one of our patients, every time, and we are committed to you from procedure right through to your 24/7, lifelong aftercare.
Why do you not have before and after pictures on your website?+-
Before and after pictures on websites can be misleading as they may not be patients of the surgeon who will be carrying out your surgery. As every person has completely different expectations and different treatment requirements, it is a much more valuable tool for your Consultant to show pictures of not only surgeries that he/she has carried out but also show you results you will be likely to achieve.
Safest, most experience & trusted of hands
Honestly – I felt the way I looked on the outside didn’t fairly reflect the way I felt on the inside. I just looked way beyond my years. My skin was loose, sagging and badly wrinkled, again too much so for my actual age. I knew that science and medicine had come a long way but was amazed what can be done with keyhole surgery. I am so happy I contacted River Medical. My face is tighter, brighter, I look years younger, I feel fantastic.- River Medical patient on facelift surgery
