Neck lift or lower rhytidectomy is a surgical procedure to improve the visible signs of ageing in the neck and jawline commonly referred to as “turkey neck”. It involves the removal of excess fat and sagging skin in the lower face, neck and under the chin. The loss of youthful contours in the face and neck is attributed to a wide variety of factors including heredity, gravity, environmental conditions and stress, but the reality is that the face and neck age at different and varying rates. Some patients are not suitable for a full facelift because the upper face isn’t showing the same signs of ageing and simply doesn’t require surgery. In this case, for the face, a non-surgical skin treatment such as Thermage may be recommended.-
- Eliminate loose, sagging skin
- Restore definition around the jaw and chin
- Eradicate that jowly appearance
- Achieve a more youthful, contoured appearance
A Neck Lift involves the surgical removal of excess facial skin and can be carried out either by keyhole surgery or incision. Depending on your concerns, your Surgeon may perform other surgical procedures on the face at the same time; this will be discussed in full at your consultation.

A key aspect of preparing for any surgery is that your Surgeon understands your desires and expectations. At your initial neck lift consultation, your Consultant will explain the procedure in great detail, discuss your expectations and what he/she can achieve for you, ensuring you have realistic expectations of the results.
Your Surgeon will also want to evaluate your current physical health and health history, ensuring you are a suitable candidate for surgery. Because this is an elective procedure, you and your Surgeon will naturally carefully discuss the benefits and risks involved, as is the case with any surgical procedure.-

Typically you will stay overnight in hospital after your procedure. You will need someone to take you home when you are discharged by the Surgeon as you will not be able to drive. You will need to take between 10 and 14 days off work to recover; the exact time will depend on the extent of the surgery. You can expect to experience some bruising and discomfort after the procedure. Your Surgeon will tell you more about the typical recovery process and may make recommendations based on your individual case but by and large expect to take between 10-14 days off work. If your job is physical you may require more time. Everyone recovers differently but you can rest assured that we will monitor you closely to ensure the swiftest, safest and most comfortable recovery.-

Is there a non-surgical alternative?+-
At River Medical, we will always endeavour to provide patients with the best possible solution. With this in mind if there is a non-surgical alternative, this will be discussed with you by your Consultant Plastic Surgeon. There is an excellent non-surgical, non-invasive skin tightening treatment called Thermage which can be discussed should you be deemed a suitable candidate.
Safest, most experience & trusted of hands
My neck just didn’t match my face. Call it turkey neck or a jowly neck, whatever the term I hated it and had to do something about it. My surgeon was just amazing. I knew I was in safe hands and just trusted him immediately. The team from the hospital, to the nurses and all the staff was second to none, it’s a really professional set up. And as for the results – I am so impressed, the skin was tightened and almost repositioned, to give me my old shape back. I look great!- River Medical patient on neck lift surgery
