- Freedom to wear your hair in whatever style you choose
The first surgical action is to prepare an incision just behind the ear, in the natural fold. The surgeon will then remove the necessary amounts of cartilage and skin required to achieve the appropriate effect. The procedure leaves virtually no trace of surgery.

A key aspect of preparing for any surgery is that your Surgeon understands your desires and expectations. At your initial consultation, your Consultant will explain the procedure in great detail, discuss your expectations and what he/she can achieve for you, ensuring you have realistic expectations of the results.
Your Surgeon will also want to evaluate your current physical health and health history, ensuring you are a suitable candidate for surgery. Because this is an elective procedure, you and your Surgeon will naturally carefully discuss the benefits and risks involved, as is the case with any surgical procedure.-

The procedure is usually performed under general anaesthesia and takes approximately two hours. All River Medical surgical procedures involve an overnight hospital stay to allow us to closely monitor your recovery and ensure optimum safety. After all, a hospital environment is the safest and only adequate place to deal with any potential eventualities.-

Typically you will stay overnight in hospital after your procedure. You will need someone to take you home when you are discharged by the Surgeon as you will not be able to drive. You may have bruising and swelling around the area. Your Surgeon will tell you more about the typical recovery process and may make recommendations based on your individual case but by and large expect to take one week off work. If your job is physical you may require more time. Everyone recovers differently but you can rest assured that we will monitor you closely to ensure the swiftest, safest and most comfortable recovery.-
Your Questions Answered
What can I expect to pay?+-
Price should not be a deciding factor with an elective surgery. Trust, experience and aftercare are absolutely key and River Medical is widely recognised as the industry leader in Ireland. We are also proud to say that we adhere to the strictest of ethical guidelines and believe that only highly trained medical staff should advise on cosmetic procedures, be it surgical or non-surgical.

Why choose River Medical?+-
We are widely regarded as being the industry leader in Ireland, specialising in the most comprehensive range of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. At River Medical, we never compromise on the level of care and attention we give each and every one of our patients, every time, and we are committed to you from procedure right through to your 24/7, lifelong aftercare.
Why do you not have before and after pictures on your website?+-
Before and after pictures on websites can be misleading as they may not be patients of the surgeon who will be carrying out your surgery. As every person has completely different expectations and different treatment requirements, it is a much more valuable tool for your Consultant to show pictures of not only surgeries that he/she has carried out but also show you results you will be likely to achieve.

For as long as I can remember I was slagged about my ears. I always laughed it off but of course it bothered me. Wearing my hair long masked the issue until I started losing my hair! I decided to go for it and get my ears “fixed”. I took a week off work had the surgery and six weeks later shaved my head - my hair covered my ears for so long nobody noticed anything other than my newly shaved head! I only regret that I didn’t get the surgery sooner.- River Medical patient on otoplasty surgery
